EASY MAKEUP ROUTINE — for the college girls

brushes

Hello ladies! My name is Taylor, from the Blonde and Ambitious Blog. I am SO EXCITED to be guest blogging on Project Hay this week! Hayley and I have been working on putting this together for the past few weeks and I just have to say – she is awesome. Legitimately one of the most adorable and genuine people I have ever met! I am so happy to be her friend, and I obviously adore her sweet blog. It is perfect for you college girls…and speaking of college girls and college in general…

I have put together for you a little list of tips for incorporating an easy makeup routine for those of us who aren’t….morning people (hi, that’s me…) It only take a few minutes so you can be sure to get every last second of sleep. We all know how it is. Don’t lie.

This routine is very skin focused. I’m sure you have heard it all before (but just in case you are new to the whole taking care of your face deal), but let me just pound it into your head: you don’t need to wear NEARLY as much makeup (okay, nobody NEEDS to wear makeup, you beautiful goddesses, you) if you take care of your skin. It will have its own natural glow. I tend to use a little more makeup in the winter because I am pale as heck.  ALRIGHT. I’m done preaching to you. Let’s get down to it.

**Disclaimer: Never ever put makeup on your face if you haven’t washed your face and moisturized.

I am serious. You want to get all of the old makeup off your face (if you didn’t wash it the night before. And if you don’t do that, I have a bone to pick with you. COME ON GUYS. Recipe for disaster). Starting with a fresh face is like starting with a white canvas. Literally you can do anything with it. YAY. **

  1. Foundation: Liquid/Powder & Concealer: Liquid

This part is pretty individualized depending on your skin type. I use a combination of both liquid and powder foundation because I have a combination of SUPER oily skin (t-zone) and SUPER dry skin (cheeks). It’s an actually blast and I just love every second of it. But for real: You know what works for your skin. I recommend using a liquid foundation if you have dryer skin, and using a powder if you have oily skin. My two favorites right now (and probably always) are: Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation and Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. I really love these. They are full coverage, so I don’t need to worry about redness showing through at all. For concealer, I use Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer. It rocks. I use one shade lighter than my foundation so that it highlights under my eyes.

MY APPLICATION PROCESS:

Begin by using a Beauty Blender  to put on your liquid foundation. It takes less than a minute to fully blend out the liquid foundation. Make sure to blend into your hairline and neck so you don’t look crazy. Next, apply concealer in downward strokes underneath your eyes and anywhere you need extra coverage (think zits or particularly red areas). Let sit for thirty seconds, and then blend, blend, blend!! The last part is the powder foundation. Take a big fluffy foundation brush and dip into your foundation. Buff all around your face, making sure, once again, to blend into your hair line and neck.

  1. Bronzer/blush

I don’t like to over contour, so I just use a little bit of bronzer under my cheek bones, at my temples and jawline with a fluffy blush brush. I just use a tiny bit for definition. I then take a peachy-pink colored blush (in my opinion this is the best shade for everyone. It compliments every skin tone) and fluff it into the apples of my cheeks and then take it towards my temples. Easy, enough! The bronzer I use is Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess. The blush I use is Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush. If you can’t tell, I love Tarte and Urban Decay.

  1. Eyebrows

Don’t be a fool like me and forget to do your eyebrows for the first 20 years of your life. OKAY. So now that I realize how to do my eyebrows, here’s the scoop. I use a powder eyebrow filler because I feel like it is more natural (I’m kind of in the middle of changing up my eyebrow game though, so come back later for an updated tutorial). I use NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder. It comes with a little brush and spoolie. Kind of hard to screw up, honestly. I use “Blonde” because I am blonde. I advice also using the color that corresponds most closely to your hair color. I like take a little bit of powder and gently fill in my brows so people can see them.

OKAY. That is the bulk of the makeup you will be wearing. Like I said, this is super skin focused because it is okay to be a little bit natural going to class. Nobody has time to do a twelve step smokey eye and Kim Kardashian contour. This whole portion of my makeup takes roughly 5 minutes or less. You can choose to stop here and roll with it or keep reading for the rest of what I do.

  1. Eyeliner/Mascara

I like to use a little bit of liquid eyeliner on my top lid to define my eyes, and then a coat or two of mascara. Then I am done. That is literally it. A line of liquid eyeliner and two coats of mascara. TA-DA. I wrote a piece on my favorite drugstore mascaras and eyeliners here so be sure to check it out so that you can see exactly what I am wearing! You should be done in about 7 minutes and walking out the door.

You don’t need much to look beautiful. You don’t need anything to look beautiful, actually. You literally do not need any stitch of makeup to look like a fierce queen rocking the world. If you feel confident and awesome, it will show through every fiber of your body. I wear makeup because it boosts my confidence and I enjoy the process of putting it on. It is fun to me, and I like creating different looks. I consider it an art. But just because I feel like that, doesn’t mean you have to! You should only do what you feel most comfortable with. J

I hope that this simplifies your getting ready process and saves you some time in the morning, and that you learned something new. I have loved writing for Project Hay, and I am sure this won’t be the last time you hear from me. I can’t wait to hear what you guys think of this piece!!

Be sure to follow me on Instagram (@blondeandambitiousblog) and check out Blonde and Ambitious Blog to see what Hayley wrote for me this week, and to check out my other pieces.

    1. Same for me! Taylor definitely knew what she was talking about! I didn’t have the best skin through my teenage years but a little foundation and a hint of blush goes a long way for me! Glad you enjoyed! 🙂
